ugly people

this is not about appearance of a person, at least not about the physical appearance.
any person that wants to go into service industry, sooner or later, you would have to deal with the ugly people. being in the f&b industry, and working closely with service standards, i am the first place people go to to drop a complain about my company. many times, the customers write in with genuine feedbacks, often doesnt demand for a particular type of returns. these people really just want us to stop making some mistakes, to improve to serve others better. these people are really the nice people, wonderful to serve, and to welcome them back.

so that was the nice people. next up, ugly town! these are the people who takes advantage of small little things to gain the world. these are the people that comes wanting to take advantage of the situation.

so it all started with 3 of them having a meal at our restaurant. turned out the next day, two had stomach problems and one vomitted. ok, so if they go see a doctor then, and the doctor says that it is our food, then so be it. but the thing is, they only saw the doctor 2 days later. any logical person would know that within that 2 days, anytihng can happen, and that is no longer proof that our food is the cause. and the worse thing is, even then, 2 of the doctors did not have the confidence to say that it is our food that caused the poisoning. so on the 3rd day, they called in, demanded to see the manager at the outlet at a specific time. they refused to change another date even though the manager is on course that day. you know, so far, they have every right to do what they are doing. what happened next is not so anymore..

my manager went down a little late, these 3 customers decided that they were hungry, and went to grab food. fair enough? they insisted that we pay for that meal for theirs because the manager was late and made them wait!
if that wasnt ugly enough, they took a cab down to our restaurant, and they insisted on making us pay for the cab ride too!

all these, plus the way they handled the whole discussion was just plain bad! (if u r interested to know what else happened, ask me in person!)

there's a saying that all service personel hates: "the customer is always right".. and you know what? this is totally false! the customers has a right to complain, but they are definitely not always right! definitely not!

p.s
so during the discussion between the customer and the manager, the customer tried to fish for some sort of returns.. so they told the manager "看你会不会做人?" - a phrase often used to sound out the other party to give something favourable to the person. of course the manager didnt say this to the customer, but she told us, she wanted to tell the customer "我都有两个女儿了,你说我会不会做人呢? so funny!

foursquare

in a generation where social media takes over the world, some good, some not so good, and some are just plain irritating. already, i'm already quite irritated with people who posts status updates just to attract attention.. like if u want attention, just go speak to them directly! and those that profess their love for the other half.. like most of the world does not want to know about it can? like what's their point..
wel.. so people say that you can just block their updates from your news feed, and remove them as friends.. well.. i have done that.. hahaha.. to some of them..

the most irritating thing now is something known as four square. its this thing, where u go to some place, do a "check in" and the whole world will know you are there. like seriously, what's the point? who really wants to know that you are at the gym? or blk 167 coffee shop? i have a feeling they post it there, in the hope that friends who are nearby will meet them or something. if you want to meet your friends, just go ask them out!

all the advancement is for nothing

the past week or so, only 1 topic remains on everyone's mind. the earthquake that shook japan, bringing with it a tsunami, and causing nuclear plants waiting to melt down.

japan. such a famous country. show anyone a scene of the famous pedestrian crossing of tokyo, the one where everyone from every direction cross at the same time, they would know its japan. 3rd biggest economy in the world if im not wrong, famous for all the technology advancement, famous for the toyotas, for the playstation, for final fantasy.

one wld think that with such advancement, nothing can bring down this 1st world country. nothing but the act of God. its just saddening to see the scenes on the news. water everywhere, cars on roof, ships washed ashore, people trapped, debris everywhere. if you think that was bad enough, the nuclear plants near the quake are now facing potential meltdown. with this catastrophe looming, most people wld have been at their limits already. sadly that's not the end of the story. power cut all over the country (like sony has to shut down the server for final fantasy mmorpg to save power) because nuclear contribute to 30% of their power, sub zero temperature, snow, and potential after shocks with the next few days.

im sure japan can pull thru, just like new orleans, just like what christchurch is going to, just like haiti. though it may be hard now, but from disasters, heroes are born. the love shown to others by these people is definitely encourage people to overcome this hurdle.

1 Cor 13: And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love.

lego friends

after i got home for a rather interesting cell at fort canning, i checked my mail and notice I received one of those emails from fb saying someone is trying to add me as a friend. i usually dont pay too much attn to those email, and from the subject, it seems like someone i dont know again.

so i went on fb, and clicked on the small notification and saw the name again, and its someone i dunno! just when i was about to click ignore, i saw the message that was below the friend request, and turned out it was my uni friend! so i added, and realized that i didnt recognize the name is because it seems like she's sharing fb with her bf, and the name was XXXX and Zee (Zee being my friend).

so she's 1/4 of the lego gang, which consist of me and my 3 other friends, who worked at lego for our internship. strangers before that, friends after that, though not for too long. 3 mths after the internship ended, 1 has already become hi-bye, which 6 mths after the internship, i realized the other one is a very difficult person.

so left this one, whom i thought initially i wont get along. whom i didnt plan to take modules with. but by chance, we became class mate for a module and were in the same project group! the most painful group ever, though nothing to do with her. i think if she wasnt in that group, i would go totally crazy. im really not racist, but... working with "them"... really takes a lot out of the person.

so, i havent seen her since we graduate. but its really nice to see a msg from her, to hear that she's doing well, studyin in new york, hopefully chasing her dream of being in the fashion industry. till i find out more again.

click-clock of the shoes

i always thought im alone in doing so..

my dept gets our very own cosy corner in office, away from the eyes of everyone else, but because of that, we dont usually know what's going on, nor can we attempt to see without moving from our seats. with no "eyes", i turned to my ears, often listening to the footsteps to identify who is walking arnd or who is walking towards us (like for example the boss!).. i was getting quite good at it, able to identify most people who wears proper shoes (and not my colleagues who change to soft slippers once they get to work)

but turned out, that 1st day i changed my shoes, i walked back to my department from the washroom, and my colleague asked me if i am wearing new shoes? i was like.. wow.. i thought most ppl wont notice shoes or something, especially if its black and basically almost the same as every other guy.. he then continue to say that the sound of my footsteps has changed and he listens to footsteps too!

2012 London Olympics and the conspiracy theory.

this is the logo of the upcoming olympics in London.. from first look, it seems just like a logo, spelling out 2012. but we people can never agree with one another, and always have their interpretation of things.

so i heard something funny thing about this logo today. apparently the iranians are thinking of boycotting the olympics because of this! the reason is they think this logo spells out Zion. I found this so funny that i came home and google about it.. turn out there there's many many conspiracy theories about the logo, and the olympics of the past.

people are just so imaginative arent they..
